The Secret: Daily Teachings

You know those book stores that sell cheap books? There’s at least one on every high street in both the UK and Australia. They always seem to be having a ‘closing down sale’ (hmm). Well, I was browsing around one the other day when I saw this:

The Secret: Daily Teachings

Now, I was only vaguely familiar with what ‘The Secret’ is*, but since Wikipedia sums it up so well, I will allow it to explain:

The Secret is a best-selling 2006 self-help book written by Rhonda Byrne, based on the earlier filmof the same name. It is based on the law of attraction and claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness.

The Daily Teachings essentially takes the messages from the book The Secret, and simplifies them into 365 daily tasks/reflections. Now, I am not an overly spiritual type of person, but I guess I would like to be. I would also like to be a more positive person. So I thought, what the heck, and splashed the cash. I am going to make a real effort into spending a little bit of time each day soaking in that day’s lesson. Given that I am the type of person who changes the month on their wall calendar only once every three months, this might be a challenge. But I have put the Daily Teachings on a shelf above the sink so I am bound to see it each day, because like it or not, everyday features washing dishes!

Day 1′s lesson is basically an introduction, so I have skipped right over to day 2, which is lucky because today is a Tuesday and day 2 is a Tuesday. It must be destiny :) Today’s teaching is:

To change your life fast, use gratitude to shift your energy. When you put all of your energy into gratitude, you will see miracles take place in your life.

To change things quickly, commit to writing 100 things you are grateful for each day, until you see the change. And FEEL the gratitude. Your power is in the FEELING that you put into the words of gratitude.

I really like this one – so often I spend so long thinking of what I don’t have (e.g. this…. sigh!) and forgetting the many, many blessings that I DO have. So as such, I am adding a little widget over there —-> to keep track of all the things I am grateful for, which I will update as they come to me.

I look forward to sharing other day’s teachings from The Secret: Daily Teachings with you.

*Mainly because it featured in an episode of The Style Network’s hit show ‘Jerseylicious’ – I know, classy, right?

A few of my favourite things

Here are a few of the things that are putting a smile on my face right now…

Summer sunsets - it's summer here in the southern hemisphere which means I spend a lot of time outside. I think my favourite time of day is sunset, particularly with a glass of wine in hand :) They've been particularly pretty lately - here's a snap of one from last week. Believe it or not, this is the view from my terrace. I am very lucky!

My house - we've been renting our house in Perth since last November, and I'm really please with how we've turned a run-down, unloved shell of a house into something that feels like home. The canvas on the wall is blown up from a photo that I took in Fremantle harbour, and the bunting is from Rob Ryan.

Skyrim (on PS3) - this is a picture of my character... modelled on me, but a more scary version. I've had this game since it came out in November, and in total I have probably spent a week playing it.... its so easy to get immersed. It's not my usual genre of game but I'm so glad I opened up my mind and bought it..

My slow cooker - ideal for those days when I can't be bothered cooking, makes meat amazingly tender, and as an added bonus, makes the house smell delicious too.

Hey :) First ever post… exciting! Just wanted to write about a little project that I have going on at the moment. I turn 27 on April 4th, and I am trying to lose 27lbs before I hit that milestone. I started this challenge on January 6th, and in 5 days I’m already down 5lbs. I’m delighted by my progress so far, but am obviously expecting things to slow down, as nice as it would be to have already met my goal by the end of January :)

I’m doing it via a very simple method – eliminating ‘bad’ carbs, i.e. pasta, rice, potatoes, bread and anything else with wheat or sugar in it, including fruits. I don’t do well on diets that involve restricting portion sizes, so I am really enjoying my big plates of chicken and broccoli, steak and salad, salmon and ratatouille… yum! I haven’t cut back on alcohol. Maybe I might have had even more success if I had done so, but I think I would have lost my mind. A nice cold glass (or half a bottle…) of white wine and I easily forget any carb cravings.

So I will keep you up to date with how things are going over the coming months. I’m so determined and motivated to meet my goal!
